Stewart Berryhill came up with som very interesting ideas about the Original Leaf, the hero before the WW2 Leaf.
Here's his idea:
The history of Laura Secord gave me an idea: What if she was the original inspiration for the Leaf? Her history of warning the Canadians that the American attack was coming has several unknowns to it such as how she made past the enemy and who she actually warned. Fill in those gaps with a Maple-leaf related device and you have the makings of a citizen spy that will eventually evolve into the first actual Leaf in the mid 1930's?
They were definetly the aggressive invaders in that battle. Her father was a hard-core American Patriot of the U.S. Revolutionary War who later moved to Canada. There's enough there to link her to both sides, choosing to support the Canadians who were defending their homes (as were the American Colonists).
Hence, I named her: The Leafe
