Okay, since you demand zombies for the first issue, I suggest we use the Green Glove as the villain for the main story. Maybe we have a secret SOE facility in Scotland that has gone silent. The heroes are sent to investigate and find the place crawling with zombies the Green Glove has raised from the dead troops inside.

The Leaf gets captured at Dieppe either by Major von Kinnel or Eisernteufel, however he is remanded to the Wehrmacht instead of the SS - which doesn't fit into the villain's plans for revenge.
The Leaf is imprisoned at Colditz Castle, but Victoria Cross quickly uncovers this fact. A small team of Imperials is sent to break him out, but is shocked when they find a unit of Canadian soldiers marching on the castle. Their confusion increases when the 'Canadians' begin killing not only German troops, but prisoners outside gardening as well. The reason is that these 'men' are actually reanimated zombies being controlled by the Green Glove, one of the SS supervillains.
Leaving Johnny Dingo and Victoria Cross outside to try and stop the zombies, Black Rod teleports inside the castle to distribute weapons to the prisoners and release the Leaf.

The commandant is shocked to see that there is an attack on the castle. He orders his guards to set up a defensive perimeter, but the advancing zombies rip through his helpless Luftwaffe soldiers. Elsewhere, BlackRod rallies the troops as he and the Leaf distribute a dozen Sten guns. The armed prisoners rush past the last pocket of defense where the commandant is holding out and beat back a group of zombies. Meanwhile, the Iron Devil orders Grenn Golve, the Tibet monk controlling the zombies, to end the pitiful trial and the mystic monk increases his thought power--making the zombies more deadly.
